New One Piece movie to celebrate anime’s 10th anniversary

2 01 2009

Two years after Shueisha’s celebration of Eiichiro Oda’s pirate manga One Piece’s ANN1 ANN2 10th anniversary it’s Toei Animation’s turn to celebrate the anime’s 10th anniversary by releasing a tenth theatrical movie, aptly named One Piece 10th, 2009. All the previous One Piece movies have premiered in Japanese theatres in early March every year during spring break in Japan; however, I could not find a set date for One Piece 10th to premiere.

According to a research by Oricon, One Piece was the most popular manga of 2008

Premiere date for Gurren Lagann: Rasen-hen set

1 01 2009

The second Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann ANN movie, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Rasen-hen (the Japanese are truly the masters of long, but still awesome, titles), is as mentioned before set to premiere under Golden Week in Japan, 2009, but not before just recently did they go out on the official movie website the exact premiere date: 25th April 2009! An exclusive preview will be screening on February 9, earlier the same year, for a few lucky people.

"Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann"

"Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann"

I have never had a good experience with non-canon movies because, frankly, they suck, but it seems even those movies are getting better nowadays with the new Bleach ANN1 ANN2 movie looking very promising and the new Eureka Seven ANN movie on its way – a product attached to the name Eureka Seven simply can’t suck. Can it? If it does, I’m seriously going to hunt the people behind the project down and too gore content, cannot be allowed anywhere – not even on the internet. You know, if I can get away from everything else I’ve got to do just for a short while… Oh wait, I shouldn’t be talking about Eureka Seven in a Gurren Lagann post now, should I? No, I should not. So I won’t… Good bye.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Rasen-hen

23 12 2008

The second Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann movie (劇場版 天元突破グレンラガン 螺巌篇; gekijouban tengen toppa guren ragan rasen-hen) is coming up on Japanese movie theatres during Golden Week next year and since I have watched and loved the Gainax anime I will definitely check this one out as well as the first movie which I have yet to see, even though I hate (and I cannot stress this enough) non-canon movies just as much as fillers. I simply hate non-canon stuff, not only because it often suck extremely. TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN!!

New Naruto: Shippuuden movie on its way

23 12 2008

In good time to celebrate the Naruto ANN manga’s ten year anniversary the second Naruto: Shippuuden ANN movie, fifth Naruto movie overall, will be released in Japanese theatres during the coming summer of 2009. The recently released teaser only tells the words “Gekijouban Naruto Shippuuden” which literally means “Movie Edition: Naruto Shippuuden,” if I may translate it myself, with no subtitle available. The teaser doesn’t tell very much about the movie or anything at all, but you get to see a few Naruto characters jump around on a black screen, trying to get you excited over the coming movie.

Eureka Seven: Pocket Full of Rainbows

11 12 2008

The Eureka Seven movie has finally got itself a title and a release date. The movie called Koukyou Shihen Eureka Sebun: Pokketo ga Niji de Ippai (“Psalms of Planets Eureka Seven: Pocket Full of Rainbows“) that I’ve been looking forward ever since it was announced in the May 2008 issue of Newtype is to be released during Golden Week 2009, a week in Japan featuring several public holidays. I could ramble on and on about Eureka Seven and how much I love the show for hours, days, weeks, months and even years, but I won’t. I’m guessing I will lose all current and future readers by excess boredom. Well, maybe not if you like love Eureka Seven like me, but otherwise, maybe yeah. Crap! How am I supposed to stand the long wait until next Golden Week? I mean, it’s the week that crosses April and May next year! I’ll just have to try, I guess… I just hope it’s able to live up to the name “Eureka Seven” that the movie sports so proudly in it’s title.

When you wish upon a star...

When you wish upon a star...

I remember how much I cried the day I realized I had finished the last episode.

New Dragonball: Evolution trailer

11 12 2008

I’m getting sick of switching between “Dragon Ball” and “Dragonball,” damn it! Well well, I’ll just keep confusing you.

The Hollywood Dragonball movie, Dragonball: Evolution (working name, may differ when released), has now a set release date of 3.13, the thirteenth of March next year, and a new trailer which have actually gotten my hopes up a little bit – but only because of the attack at the end of it. Mostly, anyway. No matter if this seems interesting or not when it comes out will probably make no difference in my case, though, I will watch this movie anyway; I just hope it isn’t all awful crap. But I’ve gotta stick with my theory that a non-Japanese person playing a Japanese person (actually a person from another planet) does not look real. Bulma looks cool, though! The new Lara Croft, anyone? Anyway, watch the trailer, make up your mind and wait for 3.13, either to watch it or complain that this horrible phenomenon has actually occured.

So what do you think?

Udon Entertainment + Crunchyroll = true

9 12 2008

Crunchyroll and Udon Entertainment, a Canadian manga studio, goes together and releases new titles such as 1520, Udon’s own Street Fighter series, and Street Fighter Alpha manga. I’m not a Street Fighter fan myself, and I’ve never heard of 1520, but maybe it’s something for you other guys.

Anime News Network starts streaming anime

9 12 2008

Online streaming seems to be latest hot thing in the anime world, and now ANNtv starts the streaming business as well. If you don’t know what ANNtv is, it’s a “streaming video platform” launched 2008 with Anime News Network self-produced editorial content, according to the Anime News Network website. Anyway, today their first streamed anime (together with almost 400 trailers and 32 anime episodes), Kite: Liberator, the sequel OVA Kite from 1998, has been released; however, only for North American audience. That’s too bad, the preview image at Anime News Network welcome page show some really nice art and just that can get me very interested. Maybe it’s for the best, in my case, though, since I haven’t watched the original OVA Kite or even heard of it before… To you North American dudes and dudettes (hmm, where did I get that line?), do check out the ANNtv over at Anime News Network, and to you non-North American dude and dudettes (oh yeah, from Mao-chan), check it out in your locale “we import all your otaku needs” store or at Amazon or beNippon, it might be good. If you want to know more first, remember that Wikipedia is your friend.

Don't you think the art is very nice and intriguing?

Mamoru Hosoda’s Summer Wars in 2009

7 12 2008

The Japanese director and also animator Mamoru Hosoda (director for Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) or TokiKake, the Digimon franchise and more) is back with another work under his direction, Summer Wars (サマーウォーズ), that will be released next year. When in 2009? Why, the summer, of course! Only in Japan, though, as far as I know… I hope the movie will be available for import here in Sweden soon after it’s official release in Japan; when a movie with the word “summer” in its title is released in the summer, that’s the season when you’re supposed to watch it! Am I wrong? No, I’m not. If you think so, you just don’t care enough, you poor being.

Anyone else getting excited just from this picture?

Anyone else getting excited just from this picture?

Since not much more than that which I’m planning on sharing with you now has been said about this movie I might as well get out of my way and do it. Summer Wars follows a regular (can that really be?) family and an old woman (no offense, ma’am) on their adventures under the hopefully clear summer sky. I loved the Digimon franchise as a kid, and to be honest, I still do, but other than that I have no experience with Hosoda’s work and don’t dare give an estimation on how this story will progress. You’ll just have to watch and find it yourself, just like I’ll be doing somehow next summer.
