FUNimation acquires rights to FMA OVA

14 01 2009

Unfortunately, this news isn’t related to the new FMA anime, but an OVA called Fullmetal Alchemist: Premium Collection which (guess who?) FUNimation has now acquired the license rights to. That’s right, FUNimation – just as always. The OVA will contain English dubs by the original English voice actors that was recorded before the end of last year.

FUNimation acquires Soul Eater

2 01 2009

If this license march doesn’t stop soon my blog (and every site for anime news) is going to look like some sort of FUNimation fansite… Anyway, BONES’ amazing Soul Eater ANN anime adaption of Atsushi Ohkubo’s original manga with the same name is to be released in the latter parts of 2009 in four separate box sets that I will also (as with Samurai Champloo ANN, mentioned in the previous post) get as soon as it becomes available for purchase in Sweden or for not too expensive import. If you haven’t seen the anime or read the manga of Soul Eater I strongly advice you to do so because it really is one of the best works I’ve ever seen, at least so far that I have seen. It can be called a regular shounen, of course, but I really like this one and think it’s above many others.

....... Why won't this ever happen in reality?

FUNimation acquires samurai bodyguards?

2 01 2009

Not exactly, but in one way they acquire a samurai to their arsenal. I know this piece of news is quite old, but with Christmas and New Years just behind the corner I have been very busy and haven’t had time to post more than the most mandatory posts. I’m so sorry! Anyway, I decided to change this and will be posting lots of (old) news, starting with this one.

FUNimation continues their new license march with several new series I haven’t written about yet, and the first of those is Samurai Champloo ANN, a samurai show I’ve had the chance to watch but didn’t and now regret very much. The entire series of 26 episodes will be released together in a box set later this year (yeah, that’s right, it’s 2009 now) that I will definitely get, no matter how bad people may say FUNimation’s subs are. They aren’t that bad, are they? Maybe I should import a Japanese box set instead – if the subs suck I won’t be watching with them on and then I can just go ahead and get a Japanese box instead, right? Much nicer to have in your bookcase as well. Ah well, that’s more my issue than yours, so let’s carry on. Samurai Champloo is yet another of those series Geneon had earlier released in North America before they closed down altogether, stopping their in-house distribution.

FUNimation licenses The Count of Monte Cristo anime

28 12 2008

FUNimation licenses the Gonzo anime Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo ANN. I suppose this anime retells the events of The Count of Monte Cristo in anime form, but I haven’t looked too much into it so I don’t really know. How many more shows will FUNimation license before they give up?

Hey, dude, you've got some dirt below your eye.

FUNimation licenses Last Exile

26 12 2008

Gonzo’s Last Exile ANN was today announced licensed by FUNimation for re-release in North America, taking over Geneon Entertainment’s (previously Pioneer) license ownership. That’s it. Good night!

I have wanted to watch this series for a long time, but I still haven't gotten to it.
